Familiar Audio Tour, 2005

Commissioned in 2005 by Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, as part of "Bay Area Now 4", the Familiar Audio Tour is made up of commentary from the friends and family of fifteen artists in the exhibition. Upon entry to the gallery, visitors were given a headset and booklet, along with a map showing the locations of works included in the tour. Most of the people whose commentary make up the tour had never before spoken publicly about art and provided their perspective during one-on-one interviews. Some of the audio commentary refers to specific works in the exhibition while other contributions focus more on the artists and their histories. The normally didactic voice of the tour guide is replaces by personal anecdotes and individual reflections.
